CheatHappens Avatar Artisan History

The "CHUAA" was officially founded by long-time member, author, and former moderator, insomniac

on March 31st, 2007. He originally called the group "CHU Avatar Artisan Union" and he founded it for the

sole purpose of making "a list or group of people to make avatars for site members". After gaining

approval from Moderator(former) DrugMunky, insomniac started to review requests from site members

to join the new group. After a little deliberation, insomniac would choose to add 5 members to the

group, these 5 original members were darkish_raven, Ho-Oh2224, potato_chips, dstates, and

NappyHole.

(insomniac's original topic can still be found on the CheatHappens message boards, Click Here to view).

On May 6th, 2007, dstates created a website for the CHUAA (using a free forum host) for the purpose

of displaying pre-made custom avatars that the group had collectively made. CheatHappens members

could browse the website and view these avatars as examples of what the group, and its individual

"artists" were capable of. From there, CH members could send a request to the group, or to a specific

artist to make a custom avatar, or use one of the pre-made custom avatars posted on the site. The

CHUAA's most prominent request was dubbed "Project #4". This request came from PWizard, in

accordance with an ongoing site revision on CheatHappens at the time. He tasked the CHUAA with

contributing to the next batch of free/unlimited avatars, each member was to submit up to 10 avatars

for this request. Each artist submitted 10 avatars to be featured on CheatHappens. Of the 60 avatars

submitted, only 13 were chosen by the founders to be featured on the site. To be specific, potato_chips

had 1 featured avatar( Link ), Ho-Oh2224 had 2 featured avatars( Link , Link ), insomniac had 2

featured avatars (Link , Link ), dstates, had 6 featured avatars (Link,Link ,Link ,Link ,Link ,Link ),

darkish_raven had 1 featured avatar(Link ), and NappyHole had 1 featured avatar (Link ). These avatars

were added to the site by Nevermore on September 15th, 2007. Eventually the CHUAA's website was

reworked to allow people to register as members and post on its boards, moving the website away from

its original purpose as a display site. Not long after this decision was made, the CHUAA members started

to disagree about how to run the site. These repeated arguments, along with a general lack of requests,

resulted in the resignation of insomniac, and without their leader, the group disbanded. The official

announcement of the CHUAA's disbandment was on the CheatHappens message boards on July 18th,

2007 by dstates.

During October, 2007 dstates contacted each of the former members of the CHUAA in effort re-form

the group. All of the former members agreed start the group again, and with this information, dstates

decided to expand the group, and thus created a topic on the CH message boards in effort to recruit

more artists. After many members sent samples of their work in, it was decided that 2 more members

would be added to the CHUAA's group of artists. On October 31st, 2007, Latiosmaster47 and Al-pucino

became the newest additions to the CHUAA. On November 8th, 2007 dstates made the official

announcement of the re-opening of the CHUAA. The group decided not to have an interactive website

like before, but instead just a website to post their avatar galleries. Through this decision, dstates chose

to place a section on his personal website to host each artists' avatar gallery which linked to the

individual artists CH private massage system so people browsing the gallery could make a request to a

specific artist if they saw something they liked. This website continued to house the CHUAA's galleries

until the server host scrapped the website in late 2008. After this, the CHUAA faded away due to a lack

of requests and CH's policy on custom avatars at the time only allowing UNL members to have 1 custom

avatar forever, instead of the old policy of being able to submit a new custom avatar every 3 months,

which fortunately has returned to being the active policy.
